With help from the Channel Island Cooperative Society, Variety Club - the children’s charity - set out in March to find two young people who have shown extraordinary courage and determination in facing an illness, helping a parent, carer or friend with a disability, or just generally showing commitment to a community above and beyond what is normally expected.
Hundreds of nominations came in for children in two categories, under 11s and 12 to 16s. It was soon clear to the judges that there were many worthy entrants nominated by their parents, teachers and friends.
